When they’re not making waves on the red carpet, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds keep it casual and classic—and we mean really classic. This weekend, the pair stepped out in New York City wearing different iterations of a 100-year-old sneaker: the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. Originally created as a basketball sneaker, the shoe was released in 1917 and went through a remake in 1922, when basketball player Chuck Taylor asked the company to improve the shoe’s support and flexibility for the court.

In the decades since, the All Star has survived the ups and downs of the fashion world, transcended seasons and trends, braced itself against the winds of the Adidas Samba and the Nike Air, and maintained its place as an all-time favorite in the sneaker game.

Case in point: Even Hollywood’s elite, like Lively and Reynolds, still rely on their All Stars to complete their off-duty fits. This weekend, the couple did just that, with the Gossip Girl star opting for a pair of rusty-orange low-tops, and the Green Lantern actor going timeless with a pair in icy white.

Lively wore her sneakers with a black ribbed tank, straight blue jeans, a raffia shoulder bag from Chanel, and dark shades with clear yellow PVC frames. Reynolds, meanwhile, wore his Converse with a light blue button-down layered over a white tank, teal pants, and gray polka-dot socks. He, too, accessorized with clear sunglasses—his in a light green—and wore a blue Wrexham AFC hat (repping the Wales soccer team which he co-owns), a gold chain, a silver Apple watch, and some beaded friendship bracelets.
