'Blackademics,' the paranormal and more will be at Fonseca Theatre in 2024 and 2025

The Fonseca Theatre Co. marked five years since its incorporation earlier this summer — a milestone it plans to celebrate in its upcoming season.

The theme is resilience, which describes both the theater and the people it serves. From its Haughville headquarters at 2508 W. Michigan St., the Fonseca focuses on communities in the surrounding neighborhoods and serves those who have been traditionally underrepresented.

"It felt only right that this anniversary season should be a celebration of this resilience for FTC, our artists, and most importantly our community," Producing Director Jordan Flores Schwartz told IndyStar in an email.

The new season reflects those communities, with stories about struggles against gentrification, how Black women navigate as scholars, and coming to terms with generational pain, among other subjects.

The newly announced season extends into 2025, which demonstrates the theater's commitment to sustainability in an era when such organizations have been trying to regain their footing after a difficult few years, Flores Schwartz said. Earlier this year, the Fonseca Theatre opened the Basile Collaboration Center, a gathering spot with flexible space that offers more room for growth and opportunities.

Here's the season schedule so far. Tickets will go on sale Nov. 1.
