Black tea goes best with fish and chips and other top brew and food combinations
You may not think it, but if you want to enjoy your fish and chips to its full potential, you should pair it with a cup of black tea, according to a leading tea expert.
And if you're looking forward to tucking in to some roast beef anytime soon, make sure you do so with some English breakfast (the most popular tea flavour), another winning combination.
Tea sommelier Angela Pryce also advises that lemon drizzle cake can be perfectly matched with an Earl Grey, due to their citrus flavours.
Meanwhile, green tea is a match made in heaven for spicy foods because of its refreshing and cleansing texture.
This comes as a survey of 2,000 tea drinkers analysed tea habits across the UK, finding as many as one in five would have a brew with quintessentially British meals like sausage and mash or a jacket potato, while a third love a cuppa with their fish and chips.
Brits' more surprising food pairings include one in 10 who would drink an Earl Grey with a curry, and a quarter who would enjoy one with a pasty, the research commissioned by Clipper, and conducted via OnePoll, also unveiled.
To hit the spot for those Brits seeking to explore more pairings, with almost a quarter of adults keen to be adventurous with different flavours of tea, Angela suggested green tea with lemon infusions can add flavour to smoked salmon, while Rooibos is best served with cashew nut or coconut-based food.

Angela Pryce, armed with some more recommendations, said, "It's fantastic to see Brits' more interesting tea combinations – there really are so many great ways to pair tea with food.
"Camomile can be enjoyed any time of day or night, as it is naturally caffeine-free.
"This will work best paired with lighter foods – an egg custard tart sprinkled with a dusting of nutmeg would work a treat.
"For a playful combination, try a gingernut biscuit with a peppermint herbal infusion. The fiery heat of the biscuit works in absolute contrast to the pure coolness of the mind – tongue-tingling magic."

In terms of meal times, breakfast came out as on top as the most popular meal to sip a cuppa with, though more than half (56%) also enjoy a brew with their lunch, and 63% with dinner.
For those deciding which tea to make a pot of, taste was seen as the most important factor, according to 87% of tea drinkers, while one in six revealed that having a brew is the highlight of their day.
Following English breakfast as the most popular type of tea is Earl Grey, green tea and a peppermint infusion. Almost two-thirds agree tea is the most comforting drink, with a further six in 10 admitting a cuppa was able to get them through the winter blues.
Bryan Martins, spokesperson for Clipper Tea, added, "We're a nation of tea lovers and foodies, and we love exploring how tea can be paired with our favourite meals, as well as the dishes people are already enjoying with their daily brew.
"There are so many tea varieties with distinctive tasting notes and aromas – a delicious cuppa can really make it better."
