EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has greenlighted Black Rabbit, a limited series headlined and executive produced by Jason Bateman and Jude Law in their first on-screen pairing. Cleopatra Coleman (Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire), Amaka Okafor (Bodies), Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Gangs of London) and Dagmara Dominczyk (Succession) have joined the cast of the one-hour drama, from showrunners and executive producers Zach Baylin and Kate Susman and Bateman’s Aggregate Films under the company’s creative partnership with Netflix.

Bateman will direct the first two episodes of the series, created and written by Baylin and Susman based on an original idea. In it, when the owner of a New York City hotspot (Law) allows his turbulent brother (Bateman) back in his life, he opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.

Executive producing are Bateman and Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films; Law and Ben Jackson for Riff Raff Entertainment; Zach Baylin and Kate Susman via Youngblood Pictures; Andrew Hinderaker, who will serve as co-showrunner; Zac Frognowski; Justin Levy and David Bernon.

The official green light for Black Rabbit comes more than a year after Deadline revealed the project being in development at Netflix with Bateman and Law attached to star and executive produce.

This marks Bateman’s followup TV role to his acclaimed performance in Netflix juggernaut Ozark. He won an Emmy for his directing on Ozark and is directing FBI surveillance thriller Dark Wire for Netflix. He was recently tapped to star in and direct an eight-episode series based on David Gauvey Herbert’s 2021 Esquire magazine article “Daddy Ball.” Aggregate Films also has the Peacock series Based On a True Story, starring Kaley Cuoco, which is headed to Season 2, the 2023 Netflix romantic comedy Your Place Or Mine, which stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher; and Apple TV+’s recent limited series Lessons In Chemistry starring Brie Larson. Bateman is repped by CAA, Lighthouse Management + Media and attorney Tom Hoberman.

Law starred as Captain Hook in David Lowery’s Peter Pan and Wendy for Disney+ and portrays Henry VIII opposite Alicia Vikander’s Queen Catherine Parr in the historical thriller Firebrand. He’ll next be seen starring in Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Law’s production company Riff Raff Entertainment recently produced The Order, also written by Zach Baylin, and has an upcoming romantic comedy film in the works from writer Sharon Horgan, among other projects. Law and Riff Raff are repped by CAA.

Coleman can currently be seen as Devra Bloodaxe in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire and will reprise the role in the follow-up, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver dropping April 19th. On television she’ll next be seen in starring role in FX’s miniseries Clipped. Other credits include A Lot of Nothing, Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool and Hulu’s Dopesick. She’s repped by CAA, Entertainment 360 and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.

Okafor most recently starred as Shahara Hasan in Netflix’s limited series Bodies. Her previous television credits include BBC’s The Responder, Des and The Split, among others. On the film side, she most recently appeared in Leo Leigh’s Sweet Sue and Greatest Days. She’s repped by The Artists Partnership.

Dìrísù will next be seen leading the cast of Uncle, a revenge thriller directed by Joe Marcantonio (Kindred). On television, he’s known for his role as Elliot Carter in Gangs of London, a guest-starring role in His Dark Materials and was most recently seen in a lead role in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses. He also previously appeared in Cannes hit Mothering Sunday, opposite Keira Knightley in Silent Night and worked on His Dark Materials. He’s repped by Markham, Froggatt & Irwin and WME.

Dominczyk is known for her role as Karolina Novotney in HBO’s Succession and for her portrayal of Callie in Netflix film The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s feature directorial debut. She also was seen as a lead in HBO’s limited series We Own This City and in a recent recurring role in Apple TV+ original series Hello Tomorrow! She’s repped by Innovative Artists and Industry Entertainment.

Baylin, an Oscar nominee for King Richard, recently co-wrote the script for Creed III, the third installment of the revamped Rocky series, for MGM, starring Michael B. Jordan. He also co-wrote the hit Bob Marley biopic One Life.

Susman co-founded Youngblood Pictures with her husband and creative partner, Baylin. The duo also has a feature in the works that will re-team them with Star Thrower, the producers behind King Richard.
