The Black List & The Hasty Pudding Institute Name Screenwriting Fellow

The Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770, in partnership with The Black List, has named Alex Rollins Berg as the second recipient of the second Hasty Pudding Institute Screenwriting Fellowship. Berg was chosen out of over 400 submissions and will receive $20K as his prize.

He won for his script i, which tells the story of Malla, a 15-year-old Nepalese farm boy, who travels to the futuristic metropolis of Kuala Lumpur for an iPhone factory job, eventually becoming caught up in the lives of the fabulously wealthy American factory owners

The fellowship seeks to increase the visibility of satire and social commentary in the arts. Berg joins first award fellow Simon Nagel, whose winning submission, The Wind At Spanish Needle, was optioned by White Horse Pictures.

This year’s panel of judges included Pudding alumni and The Great Indoors writer John Blickstead, The Muppets writer Gus Hickey, as well as co-producer of The Lego Batman Movie Ryan Halprin, Hasty Pudding’s general manager James Patrick Fitzpatrick.
