“The King of a One Horse Town is anyone who’s scared of the outside world.”

By Sheldon Pearce.

On June 2, Dan Auerbach (of the Black Keysand the Arcs) will release a new solo album called Waiting on a Song (via his new label, Easy Eye Sound). Today, he’s shared the music video for a new song from the record called “King of a One Horse Town.” It’s directed by Aaron Hymes, who describes the visual as “A Day in the life of a ‘King of a One Horse Town.’” In a statement, Auerbach, said “The King of a One Horse Town is anyone who’s scared of the outside world. Anyone who’s afraid to go beyond their own block for fear of failure. It could be a drug dealer. A drunk. A professor. That's a feeling any of us can relate to.” Watch the video, and read Hymes’ statement on its creation, below.

Aaron Hymes:

Living in LA can make it kind of challenging to shoot something that hasn’t been seen before. Almost every square inch of this area has already been put on film. I wanted to shoot somewhere that could give an “Anytown USA” vibe, so we drove all over the state of Utah from the salt flats to a little town called Helper capturing bits and pieces from towns along the way. The goal was to make it feel kind of androgynous and not anywhere specific. Utah was perfect for that.
