The actor will play a college administrator in an upcoming episode of the ABC comedy that will serve as a backdoor pilot for the offshoot, our sister Deadline reports.
The project, which is being shepherded by black-ish creator Kenya Barris, follows Dre and Rainbow’s eldest daughter, Zoey, (Yara Shahidi) as she heads to college.

During the installment, viewers will also meet another admin (Veep‘s Matt Walsh) and a freshman student (American Crime‘s Trevor Jackson) at Zoey’s future school.
Parnell and Jackson have series regular options, should the project get greenlit. Veep cast member Walsh, however, would potentially recur.
black-ish isn’t the only ABC comedy with a spinoff in the works. The network also has a ’90s-set Goldbergs pilot, starring Bryan Callen’s high school gym teacher Rick Mellor, in contention for the 2017-18 season.
Are you hoping the black-ish spinoff gets greenlit?
