Birdman has never been shy about giving himself flowers for his success and influence in music. Recently, he spoke about the Southern region’s music as a whole and how they will reign supreme over other regions forever.

The Cash Money co-founder joined The 85 South Show earlier this month (Sept. 8) and spoke about the challenges that the South faced early. He recalled the days when a song could be a hit down there but it would take some time before the East Coast and West Coast, who dominated the airwaves at the time, caught on.

That isn’t the reality anymore, and he acknowledged that a large part of that is due to the hard work of Jermaine Dupri. “They wouldn’t play our music at all. I got a lot of respect for Jermaine Dupri,” Baby said, saying that the So So Def founder “really broke that barrier” and “went up there” to fight and make different regions play their music. “Once they caught on to us, like it is now, I don’t think they’ll ever get it back,” he said. “We here forever.”

Birdman was intent on clarifying that he has no ill will toward the other regions but was simply speaking his truth. “It’s all about competing,” he said. “It’s about who got the best talent, who can make the best records. That’s what this sh*t all about. Ain’t nobody got to be hatin’ on nobody to compete with music.”

He might get the chance to show off a large part of why Southern music is so dominant if he is able to put together the Cash Money Reunion Tour he proposed last week. “We definitely going on tour. I’m putting up $100 mil for it myself,” he said during an Instagram Live session last Wednesday (Sept. 13). “But one thing for certain, two things for sure, I ain’t guaranteeing that it’s gonna be everybody. I’m standing on business and that’s what it is. If it work out, it work out. If it don’t, it don’t. But we definitely gonna get this money, that’s for a fact.”

His uncertainty about everybody stems from the fact that he later admitted he and his former signee Turk, who recently got out of jail, don’t have much of a relationship. “First of all, I ain’t got nothing against no Turk at all, he’s still a [Hot Boy]. But I’m standing on business… I ain’t have a relationship with Turk, not at all […] A lot of ni**as do sh*t, say sh*t, and I ain’t forgiven everybody. I’m old school, old law, G code.” Check out his Instagram Live below.
