Prepare to send holiday cheer to Switzerland, Bachelor Nation — Bachelor in Paradise alum Dean Unglert has been hospitalized following a ski accident in the Swiss Alps. The Bachelor franchise fan favorite will be spending Christmas in a hospital bed this year but, as he puts it, “things could have been so much worse.”

Unglert took to Instagram on Monday evening to share his harrowing experience with fans and followers. As he tells it, what started as a dream come true quickly turned into a nightmare. “All my life I’ve dreamt about skiing the Swiss Alps. How could you not? They’re huge and beautiful and have some of the best snow in the world,” he began. “Today, however, was not my day. I was sending just a liiiiitle too hard and took a nasty spill which ultimately put me here. And since this is probably going to be the only pic I get in Switzerland, I figured I gotta post it.”

Unglert went on to explain that the outcome could have been far less favorable if not for the Swiss Air-Rescue. “It took me about an hour to flag someone down for help, but once I did, I was airborne and in surgery in less than an hour,” Unglert said, praising the rescue personnel. The extent of his injuries? “A dislocated hip and fractured femur, put four screws and a plate in my leg.”

Yikes! Although Unglert undoubtedly can’t help but think about what could have been, he’s choosing to focus on the positive — and he’s “extremely grateful” to spend the holidays in a hospital bed because, hey, at least he’s still here.

Unglert is already receiving a ton of support from Bachelor Nation, including his fellow friends from the reality dating franchise. Jared Haibon wrote, “Oh no!! Hope you’re doing okay buddy! That’s terrible.” Paradise bartender Wells Adams playfully commented, “I hope you’re doing ok! I also hope there is drone footage of this. Preferably using Queen’s ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ as the soundtrack.” Becca Tilley and Katie Emo both emphasized, “So glad you’re okay!” Even host Chris Harrison chimed in, quipping, “Damn boy, sorry for the bad spill. Get better. Beaches of paradise are never this dangerous.”

And, naturally, “Deanie Baby” is getting a lot of extra attention from his girlfriend, Caelynn Miller-Keyes. Although she is currently stateside, she shared a sweet snapshot of the two of them in her Instagram Story on Monday, writing, “I just wanna squeeze you so bad.” Which, you know, is probably not advisable given Unglert’s current condition. But it’s the thought that counts, right?
