And this week’s Bingeworthy Performance of the Week honor goes to … Luna Blaise of Fresh Off the Boat, for her heartwarming portrayal of Nicole as she comes out to her father as gay.

“Every story where there’s someone coming out, I root for them and I applaud. And this was very sweet,” says Bingeworthy cohost Jessica Shaw. “It was a very sweet episode and it was a lovely performance by her.”

In the episode “A League of Her Own,” Nicole grapples with coming out to her family after confiding in close friend Eddie (Hudson Yang). Though her father’s (Ray Wise) initial reaction isn’t what she had hoped for, he eventually makes it up to her in a funny and touching scene.

“It’s great to see these moments where people are coming out and they’re accepted and loved,” says cohost Touré. “I’m thrilled to see that in 2017, on a normal national network comedy that the default has to be that the parents are accepting of them coming out.”
