Seasoned road dogs Billy Strings and Tool met up in Salt Lake City on Wednesday night, where the bluegrass guitarist lent the prog metal veterans a hand on their 2007 cut “Jambi.” Check out the performance below.
In classic Tool fashion, “Jambi” stretches out across nine-plus minutes, and their Salt Lake concert set design featured a pentagram and some spooky red lighting. We’re not sure how many metal heads in the audience were familiar with Strings, who usually collaborates with (legendary) outlaws like Willie Nelson, but he kept up on guitar all the same.
Tool’s 2023 North American tour continues through November, and then they’ll pick back up in January for even more arena shows. According to bassist Justin Chancellor, when the band finally gets off the road, they’ll head into the studio to start work on the follow-up to 2019’s Fear Inoculum. Tickets to all of their upcoming gigs are on sale here.
Strings has a ton of headlining shows of his own in the works. He’ll spend much of the fall in Europe before heading back to the States for shows in Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and more. Grab tickets to his international concerts here, and his North American gigs here.
