Billy Eichner joins Impeachment: American Crime Story as Matt Drudge

Another Ryan Murphy alum is getting involved with the Impeachment scandal.

Billy Eichner, last seen amid the Murphy-verse in the Apocalypse-themed eighth season of American Horror Story, will join the hefty cast of Impeachment: American Crime Story as Matt Drudge.

This next installment of the anthology drama series tracks the Bill ClintonMonica Lewinsky scandal of 1998, and you can’t tell that story without Drudge, whose The Drudge Report first broke the news of the scandal on Jan. 17 of that year.

“Can finally share this with the world. Truly an honor to join [Sarah Paulson], [Beanie Feldstein], Clive Owen and more in American Crime Story: Impeachment,” Eichner tweeted on Wednesday.

Feldstein of Booksmart and Lady Bird will star as Lewkinsky alongside Owen as Clinton, and Paulson as Lewinsky confidante Linda Tripp. Annaleigh Ashford, who appeared in the Assassination of Gianni Versace season of Crime Story, will return for Impeachment as Paula Jones, who sued Clinton for sexual harassment.

It may take a hot minute before we get to see all these actors transform into their respective roles, since FX programming chief John Landgraf shared his lack of confidence in Impeachment premiering by September. “[Murphy] is objectively the busiest man in show business,” Landgraf said on the TCA winter press tour. “He’s about to do a feature film with Meryl Streep. He’s not available to start production until March 21 and won’t physically be done shooting the episodes until October. So I guess it’s TBD.”

Lewinsky is onboard as a producer of the Impeachment season with Paulson, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall.

Richard Shepard, the helmer behind The Perfection with Allison Williams and Logan Browning, confirmed he’ll direct and executive produce Impeachment.

Deadline was the first to report the news of Eichner.
