Billy Crystal Sneaks In Scene-Stealing Bit On ‘SNL’s ‘Weekend Update’
He even came very close to saying “You look mahvel…” but stopped just short of completing his iconic Fernando Lamas catchphrase, during a “Weekend Update” segment. Michael Che introduced Vanessa Bayer’s Jacob The Bar Mitzvah Boy to speak about the just-concluded Passover holiday, and the segment was funny enough just for Bayer’s deadpan, blank-look response every time Che tried to engage her in dialogue, only to have him return to his trusty notebook. But then Bar Mitzvah Boy brought in Daddy — and Crystal slipped into the role as though he’d never left the cast some three decades ago. Ever-grinning and equally resistant to Che’s attempts at interaction, the few minutes were Borscht-Belt worthy comic bliss, though I must admit it made me feel, well, like an alter kocker. Look it up.
