Billy Corgan Sues TNA Wrestling, Dixie Carter

TNA Wrestling could be in for a choke slam courtesy of company president Billy Corgan.

Corgan, who is also the lead singer and guitarist for the band Smashing Pumpkins, has filed a lawsuit against the company, its chairwoman, Dixie Carter , her husband, Serg Salias, and CFO Dean Broadhead.

According to court documents obtained by TheWrap, Corgan filed the suit on Wednesday in Nashville. In addition, Corgan was granted a temporary restraining order, but the terms are unclear since the judge granted Corgan’s request to keep the order sealed. A hearing has been set for Oct. 20.

Corgan’s attorney did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Corgan is no stranger to the world of professional wrestling. In 2011, he founded the Chicago-based indie promotion Resistance Pro Wrestling. He joined TNA’s leadership ranks in 2015 as the senior producer of creative and talent development.

In August 2016, Corgan was named president of the company, with Carter transitioning to the role of chairman and chief strategy officer.

TNA has been in dire straits for years. The promotion got national TV exposure on Spike beginning in 2005, but the network opted not to renew TNA’s contract in 2014. It then moved to Destination America for a year before settling on Pop in January 2016.

Due to financial difficulties, Corgan was forced to step in and finance a recent TNA pay-per-view event personally, in addition to several subsequent TV tapings, according to Pro Wrestling Insider.

He has previously stated his desire to purchase the company and possibly rebrand it.
