Von Miller is six weeks into a long road of recovery.

With Miller’s usual optimism, he’s thinking he’ll be back sooner than most expect from his ACL injury.

Miller, 33, was placed on injured reserve by the team on Dec. 1. He was originally injured on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions.

At locker cleanout day this week for the Bills, Miller looked ahead at his path. He said he’s expecting to not only be on the field at the start of the 2023 regular season, but Miller says he’s planning to be at St. John Fisher College.

“They say it’s nine months. Hopefully I can do it in like six or seven or something like that,” Miller said via video conference. “Nine months will put me right at August, right at the beginning of training camp, I should be ready to go.”

Miller has stressed the importance of keeping a positive mental outlook during his recovery. Still, it’s a lofty goal for him to be out there in August.

Each injury is different as is each person’s body. Cornerback Tre’Davious White sustained a similar knee injury and he was out almost an entire year.

But in an interesting twist, Miller is either rubbing off on general manager Brandon Beane or there really is reason to be optimistic.

Beane said at his end of year press conference that he’s sharing Miller’s outlook regarding his timeline.

Typically, he takes a very cautions approach but not this time.

“I think Von’s in a good spot. I think he’s doing well. I expect him–I’m going to say the same thing. I expect him for a good portion of 2023; I’m not ruling out all of 2023,” Beane said.

Time will tell exactly how quickly Miller gets back on the field. He proved to be an important asset to the Bills, which showed both while he was on the field… and how much of a difference he made when he was off of it injured.
