Bills' Von Miller to 'Participate Like Normal' with Team While Facing Domestic Violence Allegations

Miller turned himself into police after a warrant was issued for his arrest on domestic violence charges last week

The Buffalo Bills intend to play Von Miller in their game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, amid the linebacker's arrest on domestic violence allegations last week.

Bills' general manager Brandon Beane addressed the allegations against Miller, 34, during a media availability on Tuesday, telling reporters he and the team only learned of the situation when it was made public.

Beane said he and the team immediately "checked in with his agent and then obviously with the NFL," adding, "As you probably read or heard, there are multiple versions of what happened and so there’s not a lot that I can say."

The Bills general manager said, "We weren't there. We're not the investigators."

Beane said the Bills organization has "had our conversations with Von and understood what he believes happened" regarding the alleged domestic violence incident with a pregnant woman.

"From that standpoint, we can't get into it," Beane continued. "It's an open investigation, and so we'll just, we'll let the legal process play out, and he'll participate like normal in practice."

Police responded to a "major disturbance call" in the 3100 block of North Harwood in Dallas at approximately 11 a.m. local time on Nov. 29, the Dallas Police Department (DPD) confirmed to PEOPLE last week.

"The preliminary investigation determined the suspect, 34-year-old Vonnie Miller, and the victim got into a verbal argument and the suspect assaulted the victim," a representative for the DPD explained.

The NFL star allegedly left the scene before officers arrived at his home in Dallas. The woman, who authorities did not name, was "treated for minor injuries" at the scene, but "was not transported to a hospital," according to police.

An arrest warrant was issued and Miller turned himself in before immediately posting a $5000 bond, according to local Buffalo news WGRZ.

Beane said the policy of having a player on your team "that's been arrested" is to "report it to the league, and then there is a policy in place there, depending on what it is," on Tuesday.

The Bills general manager added, “No one wants their name associated with any accusation like that, so that’s a natural disappointment. I’m sure he’s disappointed."

Beane continued, "But things happen sometimes, and again, we have to remember people, we have to give them their fair due process. That can happen to anyone in this room. And I would hope we would all wait and let that play out before we rush to judgment."

Beane has been in "constant communication" with the NFL as Miller's situation plays out and the Bills "don't expect anything based on our conversations," as far as league-sanctioned suspensions for Miller.

"Anytime it’s an ongoing investigation, if something was uncovered, the commissioner does have that at any point. If he feels there was something that, hey, this doesn’t look good, or something like that, if at any point that, they could, but with our knowledge of what we have today, we don’t expect that."

In a statement issued to PEOPLE after Miller's arrest warrant was made public, a representative for the Buffalo Bills addressed the allegations against the linebacker.

“This morning, we were made aware of an incident involving Von Miller. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this point," the Bills' statement said.

According to CBS reporter Jonathon Jones, a statement from the NFL read, "We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time."
