Billie Eilish’s third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, is officially upon us, and spoiler alert: It’s full of bangers. Ahead of its release, the Grammy winner had teased tracks off the album at Coachella and hosted fan listening parties in partnership with American Express. And now that it’s finally here, we can indulge in Billie’s latest bops all summer long.

“Dude ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ my third album is fucking out now i don’t even know what to SAAYY...” Billie wrote on Instagram upon the album’s drop. “@finneas and i put so much into this album and have never ever ever loved something more. we hope you enjoy it so much and i’ll see you on the other side EEEEEEEEEEEEEK HMHAS OUT NOW EVERYWHERE LOVE YOU ALL TO DEAAAAATH!!!!😭😭😭”

While the album opens up with an emotional reflection on self-image called “Skinny,” Billie revealed that she views the second track, “Lunch,” as the actual introduction to the record. Thematically, “Lunch” is the hot unapologetically queer little sister who doesn’t hold back of “Billie Bossa Nova.” Following her (very public) coming out journey, Billie taps into her queerness and sexuality on the track. Throughout her career, the “What Was I Made For?” singer has been known for staying true to herself, and as she continues to grow—both as a human and as an artist—we’re lucky enough to witness her blossom in real time through her music.

So, let’s get into Billie Eilish’s “Lunch” lyrics—because, according to all the TikTok clips, it’s definitely a 🔥🔥🔥 contender for this year’s song of the summer.

[Intro]
Oh, mm-mm

[Chorus]
I could eat that girl for lunch
Yeah, she dances on my tongue
Tastes like she might be the one

And I could never get enough
I could buy her so much stuff
It’s a craving, not a crush, huh
“Call me when you’re there”
Said, “I bought you somethin’ rare
And I left it under ‘Claire’”
So now, she’s comin’ up the stairs
So I’m pullin’ up a chair
And I’m puttin’ up my hair

I’ll say it: Opening a track up with its hook is the ultimate power move and with one as enticing as “Lunch,” it seems like it was a no-brainer for Billie and her brother/producer, Finneas.

Billie gets right into it as the song starts, outlining her attraction and desire for a woman. The sensation is seemingly intense as she paints it as a craving rather than a crush—so much so that she wants to get gifts for the girl in question. As she places the gift under a different name, she calls back to lyrics ON her Happier Than Ever track, “Billie Bossa Nova”:

Some information”s not for sharing / Use different names at hotel check-ins / It’s hard to stop it once it starts

[Verse 1]
Baby, I think you were made for me
Somebody write down the recipe
Been tryin’ hard not to overeat
You’re just so sweet
I’ll run a shower for you like you want
Clothеs on the counter for you, try ’em on
If I’m allowеd, I’ll help you take ’em off
Huh

Bless Billie for giving us another anthem about eating out. In the verse, she expresses how she wants to do it, like, all the time, to which I say: Speak your truth!

“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” Billie said of “Lunch” in her April 2024 Rolling Stone interview. She continued, “I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after. I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina.”

[Chorus]
I could eat that girl for lunch
Yeah, she dances on my tongue
Tastes like she might be the one
And I could never get enough
I could buy her so much stuff
It’s a craving, not a crush, huh

[Post-Chorus]
Oh, I just wanna get her off, oh
Oh
Oh, oh
Oh

[Verse 2]
She’s takin’ pictures in the mirror
Oh my god, her skin’s so clear
Tell her, “Bring that over here”
You need a seat? I’ll volunteer
Now she’s smilin’ ear to ear
She’s the headlights, I’m the deer

A moment of silence for “you need a seat? I’ll volunteer,” which is a playful innuendo where she offers her face as a seat for her subject. When I mentioned Billie was unapologetic about her intentions on this track, I wasn’t kidding (yes, even if it directly relates to queening).

[Bridge]
I’ve said it all before, but I’ll say it again
I’m interested in more than just bein’ your friend
I don’t wanna break it, just want it to bend
Do you know how to bend?

So, if you gather anything from this track, it’s...she wants to f*ck.

[Chorus]
