Billie Eilish Showcases Soft but Powerful Vocals in 'What Was I Made For?' Performance at 2024 Grammys

The seven-time Grammy winner performed her hit from the 'Barbie' soundtrack

Billie Eilish brought Barbie to the Grammy Awards!

Eilish, 22, took the stage at the 66th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday at Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena to perform her five-time nominated song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack.

The pop star fittingly looked like a vintage Barbie doll during her set — wearing a '60s-inspired green dress and matching jacket, which was embellished in pink to perfectly match the satin pink scarf wrapped in her hair.

With her brother and collaborator Finneas O'Connell on the piano and the accompaniment of several string players, the singer-songwriter gave a subtle but powerful performance. The simplicity allowed for her gentle voice to soar and emphasize the potency of the song's lyrics about discovering one's purpose.

Before the "Bad Guy" singer's performance, she won the award for best song written for visual media for "What Was I Made For?"

Eilish was nominated for six awards at this year's award show, including record of the year, best music video, best song written for visual media, best pop solo performance, song of the year for “What Was I Made For?” and best pop duo/group performance for “Never Felt So Alone” with Labrinth.

"What Was I Made For?" was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Critics' Choice Award for best original song. The track won the Golden Globe Award and for best original song.

After she won the Golden Globe, Eilish thanked her family and Barbie filmmakers Greta Gerwig, Noah Baumbach and Margot Robbie. 

"It was exactly a year ago almost that we were shown the movie and I was very, very miserable and depressed at the time and writing that song kind of saved me a little bit," she said. "And a year later and here we are and it’s really surreal. I feel incredibly, incredibly lucky. Incredibly lucky and grateful and you guys scare the living hell out of me — everyone in this room — but thank you so much.”

Eilish has been nominated for 25 Grammys throughout her career and has brought home seven awards since her 2019 debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? She scored several awards at the 2020 Grammy Awards, including best new artist, best pop vocal album, record of the year and song of the year for "Bad Guy.”

The decorated musician also won an Oscar and Grammy in 2021 for "No Time to Die" from the James Bond film of the same name.

Other performers for Grammys night include Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, Travis Scott, SZA, Burna Boy, U2 as well as a duet from Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman.

Christina Aguilera, Lenny Kravitz, Lionel Richie, Mark Ronson, Maluma, Meryl Streep, Samara Joy, Taylor Tomlinson and Oprah Winfrey are set to present.
