Billie Eilish and Finneas performed “What Was I Made For?”,  their hit song from Barbie, at the 2024 Academy Awards.

Taking the Oscars stage, Eilish and Finneas delivered a tender rendition of the song, which won them the award for Best Original Song later in the night (beating out Ryan Gosling’s Barbie song, “I’m Just Ken”). Beginning with a curtain separating them from the audience, the two stood on a small circular stage, with Finneas on piano. As the curtain lifted and the stage rotated to greet the auditorium, a string section joined the duo, lifting the performance to a delicate peak.

Upon completing, Eilish was greeted by a touching standing ovation. Watch video of the performance below.

Previously, “What Was I Made For?” earned Eilish awards for Song of the Year at last month’s Grammy Awards as well as Best Original Song at January’s Golden Globes.

In addition to the two Best Original Song nominations, Barbie was up for a total of eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design. Eilish’s award was the film’s only win.

Talking to the Los Angeles Times last month, Eilish said that performing at the Oscars was “very intimating,” although she’s done it before. “[It’s] terrifying,” she said. “Horribly terrifying. But in a great way. I love it. I can’t get enough of it. I can’t wait to do it again.”

In other Eilish news, the pop star recently confirmed that the follow-up album to 2021’s Happier Than Ever is on its way and has been mastered. Read Consequence‘s guide on everything we know about the new album so far.
