Billie Eilish Moves “Barbie” Cast to Tears — and Earns a Standing Ovation — with Oscars 2024 Performance

America Ferrera and Kate McKinnon had wet eyes after Eilish, Finneas and an orchestra performed “What Was I Made For?”

After “What Was I Made For?” singer Billie Eilish sang the lyrics, “I don’t know how to feel,” onstage at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday, the audience surely knew how to feel after the moving performance.

The crowd immediately gave the 22-year-old singer, her brother Finneas and the live orchestra a standing ovation after they performed the popular Barbie track, which is nominated for the Best Original Song.

The performance moved people to tears, including Barbie cast members America Ferrera and Kate McKinnon, Barbie director Greta Gerwig, as well as Wicked star Ariana Grande and other celebrities in the audience.

Ahead of the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday, Eilish won multiple awards at the Grammys in February — song of the year and best song written for visual media, both for the Barbie song.

Eilish and Finneas, 26, previously won Best Original Song at the 2022 Oscars for “No Time to Die” from the James Bond film, No Time to Die.

This year, the sibling duo is up against fellow Barbie soundtrack song, “I’m Just Ken,” performed by Ken actor Ryan Gosling and produced/written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.

“We are so incredibly honored to receive a nomination for ‘What Was I Made For?’ ” the siblings said in a joint statement after earning their nomination in January. “As lifelong fans of film, music in film and the Academy Awards, this means everything to us. We are so grateful to the Academy, its members, and to be recognized alongside so many songwriters that we respect and admire.”

“Our deepest gratitude and thanks go out to the incomparable Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach for their genius vision and execution, the entire Barbie cast and crew, Lucky Chap Entertainment and the Warner Bros. Pictures team,” they continued.

The 96th Academy Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel aired live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
