On Thursday, April  4, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter took to Instagram Stories to debut the latest addition to her ever-growing body art collection. In the photo, which appears to be a close-up shot of her hip, script lettering reading “soft” can be seen peeking out from her clothing.

Given the placement of Eilish’s new tattoo, it seems likely that the ink is a continuation of a previous tattoo; the word “hard” written in script along her lower abdomen, which she revealed on the Vanity Fair Hitmakers red carpet in December 2023. The latest ink is in a similar font and also features an “&” symbol behind it, suggesting that the tattoo now reads “hard & soft.”

Eilish’s new tattoo reveal comes one day after the Grammy-winner seemingly added all of her followers to her “close friends” list on Instagram, sparking momentary confusion among fans. It’s still not clear why Eilish made the change.

The singer revealed she had gotten her first tattoo in November 2020 during the fourth installment of her Time Capsule video series with Vanity Fair. Eilish refrained from giving any details about the ink and even told the outlet, “you’ll never see it.”

In her sultry June 2021 British Vogue cover shoot, Eilish showed off the dragon tattoo on her hip for the first time. Posing in a corset and stockings, the massive tattoo could be seen on her right hip, trailing down over the front of her thigh.

During the fifth installment of her Vanity Fair video series in November 2021, Eilish revealed she had three tattoos — the word “Eilish” on her chest, a dragon on her side and fairies on her hand —also noting that she had previously “lied” about never showing them.

Eilish debuted yet another new tattoo in October 2023. In an Instagram carousel, the singer shared a photo where she’s lying face down and showing off a massive abstract tattoo along her spine. According to an earlier Instagram post in which she revealed a snippet of the new ink on the back of her neck, the tattoo was courtesy of Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Matias Milan.

The “Bad Guy” singer has had a whirlwind 2024 so far. In March, she became the youngest two-time Oscar winner after she and her brother and collaborator, Finneas, took home the award for Best Original Song for the tune “What Was I Made For?” from the blockbuster movie Barbie.

At the Grammy Awards in February, Eilish won the award for best song written for visual media for "What Was I Made For?" and performed the heart-wrenching track during the ceremony. She was nominated for six awards total, including record of the year, best music video, best song written for visual media and best pop solo performance.
