Billboard Power 100 Celebrated The Industry Beyond The Charts
Billboard invited music industry professionals and artists alike to celebrate the past, present, and future of the creative business at their Power 100 event during 2024 Grammy week Wednesday night (Jan. 31).
Gathering a colorful crowd at the Neuehouse in Hollywood, the event amplified the work and voices of executives behind the biggest stars, as well as chart-topping pop musicians. Tres Generaciones cocktails complimented hors d’oeuvres of crab cakes and charred eggplant tostadas passed around as networking with new faces and reconnecting with past colleagues amplified a spirit of community.
Amorphous served as the DJ for the evening affair, blending R&B, Afropop, Hip-Hop, Reggaeton, and electronic, sounds. The event was cemented with award presentations to the honored Executive of the Year, Label of the Year, and the Clive Davis Visionary Award.
Lucian Grainge, CEO of Universal Music Group, graciously accepted his ranking, explaining, “Never ever in my entire life have I been so thrilled to be number two on a list,” giving praise to Taylor Swift, who came out on top. The pop star was not in attendance. Grange continued to speak, defending the controversial decision to remove UMG artists’ catalogs from TikTok following failed negotiations, as well as his determination to work against “unethical AI.”
A highlight of the event came when Clive Davis presented the Visionary Award named in his honor to Top Dawg Entertainment’s CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and President Terrence “Punch” Henderson. The duo was celebrated by TDE artist SZA with an endearing speech.
“Congratulations to my two dads… Y’all are iconic without me,” exclaimed the Grammy-nominated R&B singer.
Taking the stage himself, Top Dawg shared gratitude for the moment. “Thank you SZA for kicking a**,” shared the executive. “TDE is back on top and we’ll always be there.”
