Bill Weir Slams Megyn Kelly, Says ‘Real Journalists’ Took Cuts to Pay Her ‘Ginormous’ Salary

CNN host Bill Weir slammed Megyn Kelly on Twitter on Monday, insinuating that the NBC morning host has poorly handled her ongoing beef with Jane Fonda.

“A decent host might drop by the green room before the show and ask an 80 yr-old the best way to broach a sensitive topic but @MegynTODAY would rather attack the guest for being offended.” Weir wrote, referencing a segment on Monday’s show in which Kelly responded to Fonda’s criticisms of their interview last year.

“Meanwhile, real journalists are forced to take cuts so NBC can pay her ginormous salary,” he continued. NBC did not return TheWrap’s request for comment.

Last September, Fonda appeared on “Megyn Kelly Today” alongside Robert Redford to discuss their Netflix movie, “Our Souls at Night.” The actress apparently bristle when Kelly asked about her plastic surgery, asking “We really wanna talk about this right now?”

She’s since gone on to comment on and joke about the interview, telling Variety that the question was “so inappropriate” and evidence that Kelly was “not that good an interviewer.”

“When she first complained publicly after the program, and repeatedly, I chose to say nothing, as my general philosophy is what other people think of me is none of my business,” Kelly said on Monday. “However, Fonda was at it again last week, including right here on NBC, and then again elsewhere. So it’s time to address the ‘poor-me’ routine.”

Kelly defended herself by noting that Fonda herself has spoken about her plastic surgery publicly on multiple occasions and “Our Souls at Night” is a movie about aging.

She also said that Fonda “has no business lecturing anyone on what qualifies as offensive” after her very public anti-Vietnam War stance.

“[Fonda] called our P.O.W.’s ‘hypocrites and liars’ and referred to their torture as ‘understandable,'”Kelly said. “Even she had to apologize years later for that gun picture — but not for the rest of it.”

“By the way, she still says she’s not proud of America,” she continued. “So, the moral indignation is a little much… honestly, she has no business lecturing anyone on what qualifies as offensive.”
