Bill Gates had a great time during his recent trip to India, which included attending a pre-wedding bash for billionaire Anant Ambani with girlfriend Paula Hurd.

On Monday, the Microsoft co-founder shared a photo of the couple together at the celebration on his Instagram account. In the image, the pair, who were both dressed for the occasion in traditional Indian outfits, stood between Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and his wife Rohini.

“This was my first time attending a wedding celebration in India, and it was incredible,” Gates, 68, captioned the social media post, which has been liked by over 600,000 people, including his eldest daughter Jennifer.

“Thank you for having us and giving us an excuse to catch up with old friends,” the billionaire added.

At another point during the multi-day celebration, Gates spent time with Mark Zuckerberg, even complimenting the Meta CEO on his style. "You’ve always been great at dressing for the occasion, @zuck!” he wrote alongside a smiling photograph of the pair.

Of course, attending the multi-day celebration wasn't the only highlight of Gates' trip to India.

Earlier in this visit, Nilekani helped get Gates “up to speed on the latest in digital public infrastructure” project, according to Gates' blog post published on Tuesday.

The system, Gates said, makes it possible for people to use digital technology for a wide variety of services “including digital payments, advice for farmers, education, and much more.”

Gates also met with various other leaders during his four-day trip.

The goal, he added, was to learn more about “some of the world-changing ideas and inventions that are coming out of India” by meeting with “political leaders, government officials, scientists, philanthropists, women who are lifting their communities out of poverty, and many others.”

At the end of the post, Gates said he returned to the United States with a broader wealth of knowledge.

“I came home with a deeper understanding of India’s vibrant innovation ecosystem, and how it’s generating major advances in health, urban poverty, digital services, and much more,” the billionaire philanthropist wrote.

He added, "The world has a lot to learn from the ideas coming out of this country."

News of Gates' and Hurd’s romance came nearly two years after he and ex-wife Melinda French Gates announced they were divorcing after 27 years of marriage. The pair share three children – daughters Jennifer, 27, and Phoebe, 21, and son Rory, 24.

Hurd was previously married to Mark Hurd, the CEO of the software company Oracle and one-time boss of Hewlett-Packard, whom she shares two children with. The businessman died in October 2019 at the age of 62.
