Bill Gates appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 Wednesday, where he spoke about his recent divorce, and his relationship with the now-deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. At the time that Gates and Epstein first met, Epstein had already been convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor. But Gates, a well-known philanthropist, said he only met with Epstein for the right reasons, those reasons didn’t pan out and he now regrets having ever met with him.

“I had several dinners with him, you know, hoping that what he said about getting billions of philanthropy for global health through contacts that he had might emerge. When it looked like that wasn't a real thing, that relationship ended,” Gates said. “It was a huge mistake to spend time with him, to give him the credibility of, you know, being there. There were lots of others in that same situation, but I made a mistake.”

Bill and Melinda Gates announced in May that they were getting a divorce, which was soon followed by reports that the divorce was because of Bill’s relationship with Epstein. Gates also addressed the divorce, which was finalized on Monday.

“It's definitely a very sad milestone,” Gates said. “Melinda's a great person, and that partnership that we had coming to an end is a source of great personal sadness.”

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has helped countless people around the world, and they will continue working together on a two-year trial period.
