Bill Cosby’s PR team put on a brave face Tuesday after the once-beloved comedian was sentenced to three to 10 years in Pennsylvania state prison.

“They persecuted Jesus and look what happened,” publicist Andrew Wyatt told reporters outside the courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania, after Cosby was taken into custody following his April conviction for three counts of aggravated sexual assault.

“Not saying Mr. Cosby is Jesus,” Wyatt quickly clarified. “But we know what this country has done to black men for centuries. So Mr. Cosby is doing fine. He’s holding up well and everybody that wants to say anything negative, you’re a joke as well.”

“He knows that these are lies,” Wyatt added of Cosby.

While the disgraced TV and comedy icon has faced accusations of rape and sexual assault from dozens of women, all but one took place beyond the statute of limitation where they could be prosecuted. The sole exception was the case of Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee who says Cosby drugged and molested her in 2004.

He was ultimately found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault back in April.

“Evidence is overwhelming that it was planned predation,” said Judge Steven O’Neill in making his ruling. “This is a serious sexual assault.”

Judge O’Neill also ruled that Cosby would be classified as a “sexually violent predator ensuring that he will appear on sex offender registries and be required to undergo lifetime counseling and report regularly to authorities.
