Jillian Bell has revealed she “couldn’t believe” the experience of being on the set of Bill & Ted Face the Music with leading men Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.
Bell, who is currently promoting comedy-drama Brittany Runs a Marathon, said that watching the two stars rehearse with each other on the first day of the shoot was a highlight of her career.
She plays a couples therapist who gives her services to both lead characters’ families. in the belated threequel, which went in front of cameras this summer.
“Oh gosh, I'm trying to remember what's out there for me to say,” Bell told Yahoo Movies UK when asked about her role.
She added: “I will just say I got to be there the first day they got back into character and it was really cool to watch them. Especially rehearsing, off to the side together.
“They were walking down the hall and I was behind them and they were running lines and I was like: 'I can't believe I get to be here right now'.
“It's like those little moments where you just go: 'I get to be around my heroes that did this while I was growing up'.”
The new film, which serves as a follow-up to 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey from 1991, picks up the characters of William S. Preston (Winter) and Theodore Logan (Reeves) in middle-age.
In typically time-bending fashion, they are warned by a visitor from the future that they must create a song to save the universe.
Brittany Runs a Marathon, meanwhile, stars Bell as the title character — a cash-strapped pet-sitter who takes up running when a doctor tells her she needs to make healthier choices in order to avoid health problems.
It’s a more serious role for Bell, who is best known for her comedy work in films such as 22 Jump Street and Office Christmas Party.
The 35-year-old actor admitted she was “very nervous” about taking on a film where getting laughs wasn’t the primary concern.
She said: “You just want to feel like, as this character, you're doing her justice. I felt so connected to her and that was a reward in and of itself.”
Bill & Ted Face the Music is due to be released into cinemas in the UK and the USA on 21 August 2020, while Brittany Runs a Marathon hits UK screens on 1 November, before landing on Amazon Prime Video from 15 November.
