The biggest movies of 2021 by box office
While we haven't had a billion-dollar hit in 2021, we might soon be seeing one as Spider-Man: No Way Home has swung to a record-breaking opening weekend.
The MCU threequel already stands at $600 million after one weekend in play, so unless it's been heavily frontloaded, we can expect it to cross the $1 billion mark. It might not happen over Christmas (although it could), but it probably will definitely have by early 2022.
We've had a mix of eagerly-awaited delayed blockbusters from 2020 and brand-new movies to get us back into the cinema. And the fun isn't over yet as December will also see the release of The Matrix Resurrections.
So with Spider-Man racing up the charts, we thought we'd take a look back at the year to date to reveal the top 20 highest-grossing movies of 2021.
(The data refers to worldwide box-office takings, and is from Box Office Mojo and The Numbers, accurate as to December 20.)
