The biggest foods in the smallest state: 7 giant foods you can eat in Rhode Island

Being little is one of Rhode Island's main talking points, but we have our fair share of big things to be proud of. There's the big Gilded Age Newport mansions. The Providence Place mall (the second biggest carpeted mall in the world, if AI is to be believed). Obviously the Big Blue Bug. And giant food.

That's right, giant food. Pizza as big as the table it's served on, cocktails bigger than your head and an omelet big enough to possibly satisfy Disney's Gaston (who famously ate 5 dozen eggs a day). For fun, we took a look at menus around the state looking for the largest foods in the smallest state.

Here are seven giant foods you can eat (or photograph) in Rhode Island.

An omelet with 15 eggs at Hungry Monkey

If you're going to the Hungry Monkey in Newport, you should come hungry. They're the masters of big food. The King Kong omelet, for example, has 15 eggs, chorizo, other meats, veggies, and four different cheeses, plus it comes with a side of home fries and a piece of toast. If you eat the 6-pound meal in under an hour, they'll give you a T-shirt.

On a related note, the restaurant was on the Food Network's Man vs. Food back in 2021, when host Casey Webb dug into a custom-designed “Go Bananas French Toast Challenge”: a 4-pound plate of cream cheese-stuffed French toast topped with fruit, syrup and powdered sugar.

A cocktail that must be served to two people at Wally's Weiners

To get this cocktail, Wally's Weiners in Newport requires a minimum of two people. The giant espresso martini, $70, is bigger than your head and comes in a light or dark option. It takes multiple shakers to fill one up, and it promises to make a splash if you share it on your social media accounts.

An ice cream sundae as big as the kitchen sink at Sundaes

OK, so as big as the kitchen sink is a bit of an exaggeration unless you have a small sink, but this ice cream sundae is huge. The Kitchen Sink sundae from Sundaes Ice Cream in Cranston, Johnston and Seekonk includes four flavors of ice cream, four toppings, and the cherry on top. It's a crowd-pleaser, for sure.

A burger so big it kills at Haven Brothers

Most people stop at one hamburger patty, the extra hungry might go for two. But three? That's a giant food. Haven Brothers, 37 Libera St., Providence, is famous for its triple murder burger – a three-patty burger topped with bacon, cheese, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, onion, tomato and a fried egg. Established in 1893, this diner is an icon, featured on The Today Show, NPR and making an appearance on Man vs. Food.

A pizza as big as the table at Pier Pizza

There's no such thing as too much pizza. Putting that to the test? The Big Rhody. A 28-inch pizza at Pier Pizza, 2763 Post Road, Warwick, that is as big as the tables in the restaurant. The classic, New York-style, brick oven pizza is big enough to feed 10 to 15 people, though you could always try to eat yourself. A plain cheese pizza is $34.99, and each additional topping is $5 because it's a lot of space to fill up.

A one-pound lobster roll at Tommy's Clam Shack

Most lobster rolls tap out at about 1/2 pound a meat, which is a hearty portion size. But this lobster roll takes it to the next level at a monstrous one pound. Tommy's Clam Shack serves up this salty giant for $54.99. They advertise sharing it with another person, but we won't fault you if you decide to eat it by yourself.

A massive slab of steak at Mill's Tavern

Sometimes, bigger is better. Mill's Tavern in Providence, recently named the best steakhouse in Rhode Island by Yelp, has a huge 32 oz Australian Wagyu Tomahawk Ribeye for $197. The high-end cut of meat is sure to satisfy.

Bonus: The Awful Awful challenge

It's not exactly a giant food because it's technically Newport Creamery's Awful Awful challenge involved drinking regular-sized Awful Awfuls. But, it's one of the best-known food challenges in the state – even included in an episode of Man vs. Food – so we're adding it to the list for thoroughness. Drink three of the 24 oz. shakes, and you get the fourth one for free.
