‘My Biggest Fear Is That My Beautiful Son, Who’s Becoming My Daughter, Is Going To End Up Dead’

A mom describes how she learned that her son is transitioning to female and why she says she fears for her now daughter's life.

Janyce says that when her son, Chance, was 16, he came out as gay and his behavior drastically changed.

“Chance started acting out. He was skipping school, drinking alcohol and smoking pot,” Janyce recalls.

She says her youngest child didn’t like living with her so he went to live with his grandparents, where Janyce says things only got worse. “He started smoking meth and really getting involved in drugs,” Janyce says. “My son’s life was spiraling out of control.”

Janyce says that Chance and his friends then moved to Hollywood, at which point she says she basically lost all contact with him. She says a short while later, she learned on social media that Chance was transgender, now going by the name of Hope.

“I lost my son. I felt my whole entire world had just crashed in front of me,” the mom of three says.

Hope says transitioning to female, “felt right.” “It felt like who I was meant to be,” she says, adding that she wants her mother to stay out of her life.

But Janyce says she’s worried about Hope, who is homeless and making her living as an escort in Hollywood and has been robbed, beaten, raped and held captive. Turning to Dr. Phil for help, she says, “My biggest fear is that my beautiful son, who’s becoming my daughter, is going to end up dead.”
