Remember how angry Jenny was in Big https://tvline.com/t/big-sky/Sky‘s series premiere, after she learned that Cassie and Cody were a couple? That’s how irked we are that David E. Kelley’s Montana-set drama was cancelled in May.

We weren’t sure exactly what to expect when Big Sky premiered in 2020, and we — along with the rest of the audience — were shocked when the series killed off Ryan Phillippe’s Cody Hoyt in the very first episode. But we quickly grew to love the partnership formed by the two women who mourned Cody the hardest: his ex-wife Jenny (played by Katheryn Winnick) and his girlfriend/fellow private investigator Cassie (Kylie Bunbury). We liked that every season had the ladies chasing leads on a new case. And we dug the way Helena’s oddball characters, both noble and nefarious, gave the show a little Northern Exposure flair.

In short: We miss Big Sky. So we dreamed up a few developments we would have loved to see play out in a never-to-be Season 4. And if you miss the show, too, we’d love to hear your additions to the list. So read on for the five things we wish we’d gotten to see on Big Sky, then hit the comments with your thoughts!

1. More for Cassie to Dewell

Kylie Bunbury’s character didn’t have a whole lot to do in Season 3, and that was a crying shame. While a lot of the plot seemed to follow Jenny around, Cassie didn’t do a lot more than investigate, flirt with Cormac and build a friendship (and maybe more?) with new sheriff Beau. We’ve been Bunbury fans since her Pitch days — another cancellation that still rankles — and we really would’ve liked to have seen her get some substantive storylines in Season 4.

2. Beau’s Choice

Though Beau clearly enjoyed spending time with both Cassie and Jenny, the Season 3 finale sure made it seem like he was leaning toward a romantic relationship with the latter. And Jenny seemed into it, too. Remember at the end of the episode, when he thanked her “for everything” and then put a hand on her knee? Then she held his hand and looked at him, all heart-eyes? We want to know what happened next! Would her legendary temper torpedo a potential romance? Would his baggage weigh them down? Or would their hook-up be a match in law-enforcement heaven? We would’ve liked to find out!

3. Jerrie and Lindor, Together or Apart

We still stand by our opinion that the trafficking survivor and the U.S. Marshal would make a smoking-hot couple. But there was really no way to test that in the past couple of seasons, given that Jesse James Keitel left in Season 2 to take a series regular role on Peacock’s Queer as Folk reboot, and a previous commitment to a stage play in New York mean Omar Metwally had to be written out of Season 3. Regardless, we would’ve liked to have seen them both back in Helena — whether romantically linked or not! — and working closely with Dewell & Hoyt, where their presence was sorely missed.

4. Another Intriguingly Off-Kilter Villain

Big Sky‘s bad guys have ranged from enigmatic masterminds (the cool and unflappable Ren) to infantilized man-children (remember Ronald and his mom?). Heck, Season 3 found Reba McEntire — beloved country queen Reba McEntire! — playing a mercurial matriarch who could kill one moment and roast s’mores the next. The Legarski twins, Hootie as a hitman: With a roster like that, we’re dying to know who would’ve clashed with Dewell & Hoyt on the next go-around.

5. Donno and Tonya’s Next Chapter

We never thought, when Ren and her off-putting henchman Donno arrived in Season 2, that we’d one day be rooting for the weirdo and his new lady. But here we are, happy that the socially awkward hitman survived his near-fatal wound in the Season 3 finale, which means that he and new boss Tonya can pursue the weird little whatever-it-is that was brewing between them. That development alone would’ve made a Season 4 worth the price of admission! C’mon: If someone said their first kiss with you was “like my first time at Tim Horton’s, maple glazed and then Bavarian cream,” wouldn’t you melt? And wouldn’t you want to see where this bananas relationship was headed?
