Big Sean is gearing up to drop his next studio album, Don Life, sometime later this year, and to drum up excitement he recently shared his new song "Single Again." Less than a week after sharing the Jhené Aiko and Ty Dolla Sign-featuring song, he's now released the music video. Directed by Lawrence Lamont and starring Ryan Destiny, Keith Powers, and Haha Davis, the video follows a recently separated couple. Sean also raps from the middle of a street and inside a car surrounded by passionate fans.
The middle of the video is interspersed with a sketch that follows Sean going to court for allegedly cheating, with characters mentioning that other people are going to prison for cheating. "The video has a lot of important messages, but the main one is for people to ‘wake up and smell the roses’ in a world where we wake up and check our phones instead," Sean said of the video in a statement.
"The visual highlights a few social issues, including social media’s ability to sway people’s opinions to the point of disharmony, the social pressures faced by Millennials and Generation Y and media coverage of the Black man," director Lawrence Lamont added. "While bringing these key issues to light, I also wanted to capture Detroit’s beautiful spirit and style."
The release of "Single Again" arrived not too long after he shared "Overtime," his first solo single of 2019.
Before sharing "Single Again," Sean made sure to convey the message of the track to his fans. "I never knew that I didn’t know how to be alone in life," he tweeted Thursday night (July 25). "I always would find so much joy n happiness in a relationship or being with friends, but I didn’t know how important it was to be in a relationship with yourself."
He also wanted to show his apperication for his ex-girlfriend Jhené Aiko.
.@JheneAiko I appreciate you supporting me on this one and I want to just say I love you unconditionally. You amazing, talented, every song we do special to me! People gon say whatever but it is what it is. I could have txt u this I know but I want people to know I appreciate you— Sean Don (@BigSean) July 29, 2019
During a recent interview with Zane Lowe upon premiering the song, Sean teased that his next record will keep his day-one fans very happy. "I just been returning to my roots, bro," Sean said. "I’ve just been getting back to having fun with it. At one point, I felt like it might have started to become like a burden, or like work, but now it’s just fun. So this is just me having fun bro, expressing myself. It was a time well spent."
