Big reputations: Two of Rhode Island's most talked about couples will be at the Super Bowl

Rule number one: There is always a Rhode Island connection, and that includes Super Bowl LVIII.

While there are no players from Rhode Island in the 2024 Super Bowl pitting the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Feb. 11, Rhode Islanders can use these reasons to cheer when the game kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

Here are three Rhode Island connections to be on the lookout for during the game.

1. Olivia Culpo

Engaged to 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, Rhode Island's own Olivia Culpo is one of the most famous "wives and girlfriends" in the NFL. Nearly always there to cheer in white, gold and red (sometimes in outfits designed by fellow NFL wife Kristin Juszczyk (who designed that jacket for Taylor Swift that everyone was talking about), she will definitely be at the Super Bowl.

After the 49ers clinched their spot in the Super Bowl, Culpo posted a reel of them celebrating on Instagram, saying "watching the love of your life live out his dream is the best feeling of the world."

In the caption, she said, "you deserve it all Christian."

A former Miss Rhode Island, Culpo doesn't live in Lil' Rhody full-time anymore but she's vocal in her support for her hometown of Cranston and she's in the state regularly to visit the fleet of restaurants she co-owns. She also visits for wedding planning, as she and McCaffrey are planning to get married in Rhode Island very soon.

2. Taylor Swift

The math has been done, and it's definitely possible for part-time Rhode Island resident Taylor Swift to make it from her Tokyo Eras Tour performance on Saturday night to watch her beau, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, play in the Super Bowl on Sunday in Las Vegas. She's widely expected to do so.

If she makes it, it will be her 13th game – which is well known as her lucky number – since the pair publicly launched their relationship this season.

Swift was at the AFC Championship game, and photos of her and Kelce kissing in celebration were everywhere afterward. According to Page Six, Swift was overheard telling the tight end she's "never been so proud of anyone, ever."

3.  The Vince Lombardi Trophy

Since 1967, Tiffany & Co. has been making the Vince Lombardi Trophy at its Cumberland workshop.

The trophy is made entirely out of sterling silver and is about 22 inches tall. The winning team is presented with it right after the game, but not long after the trophy is hoisted it makes a quick trip back to Rhode Island to be engraved with the final score. Then, it goes back to the winning team to keep for real this time.
