‘Big Little Lies’ Murder Mystery Revealed in Shocking Finale

On the Big Little Lies series finale, we finally found out who died, along with how he died and why. Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgård) is the abusive husband to Nicole Kidman’s Celeste. Throughout the season, we’ve watched Perry’s deplorable behavior toward his wife, which turned out to be the driving force behind the show.

Skarsgård joked in a recent interview that he’d never get another job after playing Perry Wright: “I’ll never play leading man, that’s for sure.” Skarsgård added, “But if you need an abusive a–hole, I’m your guy.”

In the finale, Celeste finally gets the strength to leave Perry after learning that her sons knew about the abuse and that one of them had become abusive himself. Celeste’s plan to leave Perry comes to light after he sees a message on her phone, prompting her to tell him she’s leaving as they head to a fundraiser for their children’s school.

It is at the fundraiser that the man who seven years earlier had raped and impregnated Jane (Shailene Woodley) is revealed. As Perry tries to talk Celeste into staying with him, Jane sees him and immediately recognizes him as her attacker. In the melee that ensues, Perry beats Celeste while Jane and Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) try to stop him. They are unable to, and Perry repeatedly kicks Celeste while she’s on the ground. It’s at this point that Perry finally gets what he deserves. Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), who has a running start, pushes Perry, causing him to fall down some stairs, killing him.

Though stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman have expressed interest in possibly continuing the story for a second season, executive producer/director Jean-Marc Vallée would prefer to leave it alone. Although, the way the episode ended, it seems as if the story may be able to continue. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
