'Big Brother' fans angry over contestant's 'rice pudding' joke about Asian houseguest

Following the Power of Veto competition and subsequent meeting on Big Brother Wednesday night, this season's most controversial contestant, Jack Matthews, was sitting on the block next to Isabella Wang aka Bella. "This is absolutely my worst-case scenario. I'm sitting next to Jack, who apparently everyone loves and just wants to do whatever he says. I don't understand," said Bella. Little does Bella know, everyone does, in fact, hate Jack. So far this season, CBS has been receiving a lot of backlash relating to racism starting with the season premiere, when David Alexander became the first houseguest to be "banished," all the way up to last week's first real eviction, in which all three contestants sent home were people of color – David, Kemi Fakunle and Ovi Kabir. Meanwhile, Jack has been the most hated contestant by viewers, who even started a petition to get him expelled from the show, after he said that he wanted to "stomp a mudhole" through Kemi's chest on the live feeds earlier this month. Now, Jack is being called out for yet another racist comment he made on the live feeds, while allegedly talking about Bella. During a group conversation, Tommy Bracco said, "The proof is in the pudding," to which Jack added, "The rice pudding." Here's why viewers are offended. Rice pudding is a common dessert in Asia, where rice is a food staple. Bella is Asian and, given Jack's track record of multiple offensive remarks toward his fellow houseguests of ethnicity, viewers' tolerance for his inappropriate statements is very low. So it's Jack vs. Bella during this week's live eviction and, no matter who is sent home, it's going to be really interesting either way.
