Big Brother and The Challenge: USA summer premiere dates revealed

Sick of your family? Good news! You only have to pay attention to them for another month! That's because there is a flood of absurdly addictive trashtastic reality competition television making its way to your screens this summer, and now we know exactly when.

CBS has announced the return of one summer standby and the network debut of a cable and streaming mainstay sure to kill both brain cells and relationships in equal measure. Big Brother — which somehow survived the surreal fever dream that was season 1 to become an annual guilty pleasure filled with sassy wisecracking robots and large animatronic animals — will return for its 24th season of madness and mayhem with a 90-minute premiere on July 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT And it will not be alone.

Making its network debut directly after Big Brother's premiere on July 6 will be The Challenge: USA, also kicking off with a 90-minute first episode. Scoffing at Big Brother's mere 24 seasons (28 if you include three celebrity installments and Big Brother: Over the Top) The Challenge: USA will become the 41st season of The Challenge franchise, which first debuted back in 1998 as Road Rules All-Stars. 37 seasons of the original series have aired on MTV, while season 3 of spin-off The Challenge: All Stars premiered May 11 on Paramount +.

'Big Brother' and 'The Challenge: USA' reveal 2022 premiere dates

The winners of The Challenge: USA's summer season (which will feature contestants who previously appeared on CBS reality shows Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and Love Island) will then face off against the champs of various international editions in the very dramatic sounding (and preliminary titled) The Challenge: World Championship on Paramount + — and if you are already confused by all the various networks and spin-off show titles at this point, rest assured you are not alone.

Hosted by Julie Chen Moonves (a.k.a. the Chenbot), Big Brother will air three nights a week (on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday), because that much incredible television simply cannot be contained to a single night a week. Apparently, The Challenge: USA can and will be contained to a single weekly episode, settling into its Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET/PT slot.

Who will win? All of us! At least all of us who have no issues whatsoever with turning over our summer months to the discovery of terrible new alliance names, ridiculous rivalries,  and a possible surprise appearance of someone named Mr. PEC-Tacular.
