‘Big Bang Theory’ Reunion: Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik to Guest Star on ‘Young Sheldon’ Finale

Bazinga again! “The Big Bang Theory” stars Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik will guest star on the series finale of CBS’ “Young Sheldon,” reuniting as Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler. Details of the episode, which airs Thursday, May 16, and how Parsons and Bialik will be incorporated into it, remains a secret.

Parsons, of course, has been a part of “Young Sheldon” from the beginning, serving as the show’s narrator and as one of its executive producers. Bialik has also been heard on two episodes of “Young Sheldon” as a guest voiceover. But this reps the first time the duo has been on screen together since the May 2019 series finale of “The Big Bang Theory,” and it also marks the first on-camera appearance of their characters — as grown-up Sheldon and Amy.

“Young Sheldon” originally premiered in 2017, while “The Big Bang Theory” wrapped up its run in 2019 after launching in 2007. The news of Parsons’ and Bialik’s upcoming appearance comes a day after CBS made it official that the “Big Bang Theory”/”Young Sheldon” universe would continue via a new spin-off for next season about Sheldon’s brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) and his new wife Mandy (Emily Osment). That show has officially been ordered at CBS for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.

Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro are the creators behind “Young Sheldon,” which stars Iain Armitage as the younger version of Parsons’ “The Big Bang Theory” character Sheldon Cooper. The series opened as the top-rated new comedy of the 2017-2018 TV season and continues as TV’s most-watched laffer in primetime. “Young Sheldon” has also become a powerhouse in streaming with its off-net episodes, which are available on both Netflix and Max.

Along with Armitage, “Young Sheldon” also stars Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, Emily Osment and Parsons as the voice of Sheldon. Lorre, Molaro, Steve Holland, Nick Bakay, Parsons, and Todd Spiewak are exec producers for the show, which comes from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

“Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” Holland, Molaro and Lorre said in a joint statement last November. “We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons.”

There could be other chances for Parsons and Bialik to reunite in the future. Another “Big Bang Theory” spinoff is potentially in the works at Max from Lorre, via his overall deal at Warner Bros. Television. That one is believed to be an hour-long series featuring a mostly new cast with potential for known “Big Bang” stars to appear in guest spots.

In the years since “Big Bang Theory,” besides “Young Sheldon,” Parsons has been busy with series like “Hollywood” as well as films “The Boys in the Band” and “Spoiler Alert.” Bialik starred in the sitcom “Call Me Kat” and also served as one of the hosts of “Jeopardy” until that relationship recently ended.
