‘The Big Bang’ Rebounds, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ & ‘Pitch’ Slip To Tie Ratings Lows
UPDATE 2 PM: Only NBC’s lineup underwent adjustments in the final ratings, with all series shedding a tenth or two after inflation from an NFL preemption in the fast nationals, but still ending up above their Live+same day ratings from last Thursday. Superstore (1.2 at 8 PM, 1.3 at 8:30 PM) is up from its 8 PM episode last week (1.1), Chicago Fire (1.4) and The Blacklist (1.2) each ticked up a tenth week-to-week. ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy remained at a 1.9, tying a series L+SD low. Also officially equaling a low was Fox’s rookie Pitch (0.7).
PREVIOUS 10:30 AM: TV’s top comedy, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, bounced back after a dip last week to a 3.4 rating in adults 18-49. That would equal the show’s Thursday premiere two weeks ago and, if the show gets an upward adjustment as it usually does, it may post a Thursday season high. Not that a renewal for the long-running comedy is in doubt but strong ratings showing certainly helps the cause.
In Week 3, new CBS comedy The Great Indoors (1.7) was even with its fast national last week when it was adjusted down in the finals to 1.6. That will likely happen again. While The Great Indoors has been pretty stable, drawing a 1.9, 1.6, 1.7/1.6 in the first three weeks, its lead-in retention will drop under 50% when the finals come out today. The rest of the CBS Thursday lineup inched up, Mom (1.5) was up +0.2, Life In Pieces (1.4) up +0.1 and Pure Genius (1.0) up a tenth. The medical drama equaled its ho-hum debut, which few shows have been able to do. Still, like The Great Indoors, it has been stable though somewhat underperforming by CBS’ higher standards.
ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy (1.9) ticked down -0.2. If the number holds, it would tie a series Live+Same Day low for the veteran medical soap. On the flip side, lead-out Notorious (0.9) ticked up a tenth, equaling the freshman’s second highest L+SD demo rating. How To Get Away with Murder (1.2) was up a tenth from the fast national, even with the final from last week.
After the +0.1 bump following the World Series last week, Fox’s new baseball drama Pitch (0.7) gave out the gains, dipping -0.2 to a series low. Rosewood (0.7) was off by a tenth to tie a L+SD low.
NBC’s fast nationals were inflated by an NFL preemption, producing various season highs. I will update with the finals. For the moment The Blacklist is at a 1.4, Chicago Med at 1.5, back-to-back episodes of Superstore at 1.3 and 1.4.
The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow (0.6) was steady, Supernatural (0.6) off by a tenth.
