If you’re going to insist that President Joe Biden is too old for reelection, you should also take a closer look at who’s challenging him.

During a “surprise” appearance to mark the 10th anniversary of NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers, Biden addressed the concern American voters have about his advanced age. What began as playful interview — Meyers suggested he’d obtained “classified materials” revealing that the president is 81 years old, at which point POTUS shot back, “Who the hell told you that? That’s classified!” — took a serious turn as Biden addressed his 77-year-old competitor, former President Donald Trump.

“You gotta take a look at the other guy. He’s about as old as I am, and he can’t remember his wife’s name,” Biden alleged, referring to Trump’s recent CPAC appearance, where he seemingly referred to former First Lady Melania Trump as “Mercedes.”

“It’s about how old your ideas are,” Biden argued. “This is a guy who wants to take us back. He wants to take us back on Roe v. Wade, he wants to take us back on a whole range of issues that are — 50, 60 years, they’ve been solid American positions.

“I think this is about the future,” he said. “Every single thing we’ve done — and I think we’ve gotten some good things done, and they told us we couldn’t get them done because things were so divided — he’s frontally stated that he wants to do away with if he gets elected.”

The candidates’ respective ages has been a key issue this election cycle. Earlier this month, Jon Stewart addressed the Biden-Trump rematch in a Daily Show desk piece that went viral.

“It should be noted that while concerns over any president’s fitness and acuity are legitimate — especially those at an advanced age — Biden’s opponent also seems to live at the villages,” he said. “So, the question then becomes: What the f–k are we doing here, people?

“Let me tell you something: Biden has lost a step, but Trump regularly says things at rallies that would warrant a wellness check,” Stewart opined. “These two candidates… are both similarly challenged. And it is not crazy to think that the oldest people in the history of the country to ever run for president might have some of these challenges.”
