Beyonce and Taylor Swift make history at the Grammys

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift didn’t just win big at the Grammys on Sunday, they made history. Beyoncé became the first singer, male or female, ever to win 28 Grammys, the record breaker coming for Best R&B Performance for her song “Black Parade,” which was released on Juneteenth last year. Her 27th came earlier in the day when she and Megan Thee Stallion won Best Rap Song for “Savage,” becoming the first female artists to win in the category, garnering a Guinness world record in the process.

After receiving the record-breaking Grammy, a grateful Beyoncé collected herself and said, “As an artist, I believe it's my job, and all of our jobs, to reflect the times, and it's been such a difficult time. So I wanted to uplift, encourage and celebrate all of the beautiful Black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world.”

Swift made history when she won the Album of the Year Grammy for Folklore, becoming the first woman ever to win the award for a third time. In doing so, Swift joins legends Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon.

“Mostly, we just want to thank the fans,” Swift said while accepting the award. “You guys met us in this imaginary world that we created and we can't tell you how honored we are forever by this. Thank you so much.”
