Beyoncé, Missy Elliot, and Ludacris Pay Tribute to Aaliyah on the 15th Anniversary of Her Death

“Try Again” singer Aaliyah tragically died at age 22 in a plane crash on Aug. 25, 2001. The private jet went down shortly after takeoff in the Bahamas, killing the singer and eight others. The cause of the crash was later reported to be a result of too much weight on the aircraft.

On Thursday, a few of the late singer’s famous friends honored her memory on social media. Beyoncé took to Instagram to share a sweet clip of Aaliyah and herself on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards in 2000. Missy Elliot also tweeted a heartfelt message to her friend: “#Aaliyah15yearsLater I can still hear your Laughter U have inspired SO MANY musically/style u will NEVER b 4Gotten.” Meanwhile, Ludacris shared an old photo of himself posing with his arm around Aaliyah. “One of my fav #tbt #ripaaliyah,” he captioned the Instagram pic.
