September 4 should be a national holiday!

On that day, 40 years ago, Beyoncé was born, and she celebrated her huge milestone by writing a sentimental letter to her fans.

First, the singer thanked her followers for wishing her a Happy Birthday, and then she revealed the most important thing that she’s learned this year.

“This is the first year that I really understood what it means to be alive and to live in the moment,” she said.

“It’s the first time that I have an understanding of how fragile life truly is, how hard life can be at times, and therefore how important it is to stop and smell the roses during the good times,” Beyoncé continued.

“I thought I knew at 21 or 30 ... but I didn’t. The more mature I become, the more I understand and the deeper my joy grows.”

Beyoncé also said that she doesn’t understand why there’s a stigma about women growing older.

“Whoever tried to condition women to feel that we are supposed to feel old or unhappy when we turn 40 got it ALL THE WAY 4’D UP,” she wrote. “This has absolutely been the best I’ve felt in my life. I’m so grateful to be GROWN, GROWN!”

Beyoncé ended her letter by thanking her fans for their constant support.

“Most of ya’ll met me when I was 15, and we have grown up together. You bring so much joy unto my life. I hope my art can continue to bring a little joy unto yours. I love you.”

We love you too, Beyoncé! You can read her full letter here.
