Beverly Johnson is detailing her wedding day look.

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the supermodel, 71, opens up about how she styled herself — and what products she used — when she wed financier Brian Maillian in Las Vegas in October.

For the big day, Johnson wore "the perfect" white Dolce & Gabbana suit from her closet, along with a pair of towering, 7-inch Aldo heels, which she says she ditched "as soon as I got out of there."

The star wore her hair in soft waves, and did her own makeup. "I didn't want it to be heavy glam," she explains, noting that she aimed for a natural look that included NARS lipgloss and foundation, plus the Coco Fragrance from Chanel.

"So I did Beverly. I did my own makeup, did my own hair, and [wore] a suit that I was comfortable with
because I've had it for, seven or eight years," says Johnson, who also credits a Retrouve face oil and sessions with Dr. Wendy Roberts as her go-to beauty hacks. Overall, she says, "it was beautiful and it was appropriate."

According to Johnson, the idea to marry Maillian, 74, came to her when she thought about how she wanted to celebrate her 71st birthday.

"I sit up in bed, and Brian wakes up, and I said, 'I want to get married,' " she recalls telling him. “He said 'Okay.' I wasn’t expecting ‘Okay.' And then I’m thinking, ‘Holy s---!’ "

The couple, who had previously been engaged since 2018, then walked down the aisle at the Chapel of Flowers the next day. "I knew this was real," Johnson says. "There was no pomp and circumstance."

As Johnson and Maillian exchanged vows with only two close friends as witnesses, Johnson details, “I started grabbing Brian’s hand, really tight. We’re both realizing the magnitude of what we’re about to do."

When Johnson — who has been married twice before — reflects on finding love again with Maillian, she says, “There’s so much to celebrate."

“I feel so confident and strong, and I now have someone to walk this journey with, hand in hand," she continues.

Johnson — who in 1974 became the first Black woman to appear on the cover of American Vogue, and is now performing in her one-woman Off-Broadway show In Vogue to mark the 50th anniversary of her historic cover — implores older women to never give up hope at finding their happy ending.

"To all of the women my age, who think that it's over for them, and they'll never find anyone, I don't think that's true," she says. "I think there's someone for everyone, and I always tell Brian and other people, 'I prayed for that man.' ... I manifested him in my life."

Johnson adds: "I think that if you have that kind of attitude, something will come to you. ... There's someone for everyone. That's how I see it."
