Friends, we’re heading back to California! Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling’s Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot dropped new details at San Diego Comic Con, and they’re nothing short of shocking. The series that made this cast famous is heading back to that iconic zip code — but major changes are in store for the 2019 iteration of this show. We’re all for reboots not sticking exactly to the original, but we’re very curious to see how the new 90210 season will play out.

The biggest change was revealed by Ian Ziering (AKA Steve) to Us Weekly. While much of the original cast is back for this reboot, they won’t be playing their beloved characters — they’ll be playing themselves. So, half-reality, half-drama? Could be interesting. Ziegler described the premise like this: “We are playing ourselves after meeting at a fan panel. Tori, who, in the TV series, is a mother of six children and is broke, inspires everybody to get the show back on,” the actor shares. ““[Tori’s character] really needs this. So everyone has their reasons of why they don’t want to do it or why it shouldn’t be done, but Tori’s story is so compelling, it convinces everyone to do it.” Does this qualify as life imitating art, or art imitating life? Asking for a friend.

Along with Ziering and Spelling, the series will also feature original cast members Jason Priestly, Shannen Doherty, Gabrielle Carteris, and Brian Austin Green. While on the set of BH90210, Ziering revealed that the cast members all refer to their “characters” by their initials — to avoid talking about themselves in third person all day. For Ziering at least, his “character” IZ is simply a larger-than-life version of Ziering himself: “IZ is an even greater entrepreneur than I am. He’s much more motivating and inspiring, and these are things that I try to be in my own personal life, but he takes it to the next level,” Ziering shared with the press. Fans will have to wait and see how all the drama plays out.

BH90210 premieres on Fox Wednesday, August 7, at 9 p.m. ET.
