In Between Days Music Festival in Quincy cancelled for 2024. On pause or gone forever?

QUINCY – The music may just be on pause, not stop, as the In Between Days Music Festival at Veterans' Memorial Stadium in Quincy will not return for a third year this August – or at least not this year.

"(G)iven the congestion of our 2024 calendar and our resources tied up in other commitments, we are making the sad but important decision to pause In Between Days in 2024," a statement on the festival's website read. "We aim to develop and build an experience without compromise and look to return at a later date."

Alex Magleby, CEO of festival operator Heritage Sports Ventures, said in a 2022 interview that he envisioned the festival as a cap off to a summer of indie and retro rock that includes Boston Calling in May and the Levitate Music Festival in Marshfield in July.

Veterans' Memorial Stadium is home to the New England Free Jacks rugby team, which Magleby owns. The team combined with Heritage Sports and took over management of the venue a few years back. Free Jacks home games often include musical acts as part of the day.

The inaugural In Between Days Festival in August 2022 was a one-day event featuring eight performers along with food and retail vendors. The event expanded to a two-day festival in 2023, at which point the line-up tripled from eight acts to 24 bands and performers.

According to the festival website, 100% of respondents to a survey of 2023 concertgoers said they would return to the festival again.

Organizers said they hoped to re-introduce the festival at some point in the future.

"Until then, the Free Jacks rugby matches and fan festivals will continue to grow throughout 2024, and we hope you can share in the joy and community of these lively match days, including great local bands, craft food and beer, and great vibes all around," organizers said online.
