Tired of the same ol’ touring acts rolling through Boise each summer?

Outlaw Field has an answer.

The Idaho Botanical Garden’s outdoor venue will host a gifted, multitalented musician who definitely isn’t a regular: Jon Batiste.

The five-time Grammy-winning singer, pianist and TV personality will headline a show Thursday, June 6. Tickets to the 7 p.m. concert become available to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Ticketmaster for $65 general admission. A presale for Garden members starts at 10 a.m. Monday, April 15, with tickets priced at $60.

Born and raised in the New Orleans music scene, Batiste released his first album at 17, then graduated from New York’s Juilliard School with degrees in jazz studies. Batiste has collaborated with acts ranging from Mavis Staples and Willie Nelson to Prince, Lana Del Rey, Lil Wayne and Ed Sheeran.

Widely known as the bandleader and musical director on television’s “Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Batiste departed in 2022 to focus on an increasingly diverse, fulfilling career.

Some of his honors include an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy for composing the score for 2020’s Pixar movie “Soul” with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. He won “Album of the Year” at the Grammys for his 2021 release “We Are.” Batiste’s 11 nods at that ceremony made him the Grammys’ most-nominated artist ever. In 2022, Time magazine named him one of its “Top 100 Most Influential People.”

Batiste’s Boise stop is part of an increasingly busy spring and summer schedule for him. Highlights include performances at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in California and the New Orleans Jazz Fest — both this month. Days after his Outlaw Field show, Batiste will head to the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee.

Batiste’s concert is the seventh announced so far at Outlaw Field in 2024. The others: Mt. Joy, Andrew Bird and Nickel Creek, Blues Traveler and JJ Grey & Mofro, Sierra Ferrell, Norah Jones (sold out), and Iration and Pepper.
