“The In Between” Release Date

Supernatural love story “The In Between,” starring Joey King, will premiere on Paramount Plus on Feb. 11, the streaming service announced.

King plays a teenage girl who has lived in foster homes for much of her childhood, and encounters a romantic senior from a neighboring town (Kyle Allen). After he dies in a car accident, she begins to think he is contacting her from the afterworld. Kim Dickens, John Ortiz and Celeste O’Connor co-star. The film will be available on Netflix internationally. Watch the trailer below.

NewFest and Netflix Announce New Voices Filmmaking Grant for LGBTQ Filmmakers

NewFest announced the New Voices filmmaker grant, a new initiative in partnership with Netflix to support LGBTQ filmmakers, with four creators receiving $25,000 to create new work as well as forming connections through a customized mentorship track through the organization.

In addition to the $25,000 grant and mentorship program, fellows will have the opportunity to get their work showcased and participate in events at NewFest’s New York LGBTQ Film Festival — where they will travel as guests of the organization to other North American film festivals.

“NewFest is thrilled to partner with Netflix in launching the New Voices filmmaker grant to equip emerging LGBTQ Plus filmmakers with the resources, tools and exposure they need to succeed,” said David Hatkoff, executive director of NewFest.

The program will bolster four filmmakers a year, over the next two years, and eligibility is for those who have not previously made a feature film or had a film publicly distributed by anyone other than themselves. Fellows will be selected in May 2022, with the application deadline due on Feb. 28.

The partnership between NewFest and Netflix is part of Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity.

‘Betty White: A Celebration’ Marked Actor’s Final On-Camera Appearance

Betty White’s final on-camera appearance, recorded just ten days before her death, was at “Betty White: A Celebration.” White taped her appearance at the event put together by Fathom.

Due to public demand for “Betty White: A Celebration,” Fathom Events has expanded showings to over 1500 locations nationwide so that more people can participate in the one-day-only film.

The event is a celebration of White’s life and career, honoring what would have been her 100th birthday on Jan. 17.

Producers Steve Boettcher and Mike Trinklein were given exclusive access by White to craft “100 Years Young,” which takes a look at the beloved star’s behind-the-scenes life, her relationship with her office staff and her efforts as an animal advocate. It includes guests such as Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Jay Leno, Carol Burnett, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, Valerie Bertinelli, James Corden, Wendy Malick and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Boettcher said, “We didn’t want her birthday to pass without bringing together all the people that love her, from her co-stars and friends to her many millions of fans of all ages, to celebrate what made Betty a national treasure.”

Mammoth Film Festival Announces 2022 Lineup (EXCLUSIVE)

The fourth annual Mammoth Film Festival, taking place in Mammoth Lakes, Calif. from Feb. 3 to 6, has announced its 2022 slate, including the North American premiere of Luke Hemsworth’s “Bosch & Rockit” and the world premiere of “Who Are You People,” starring Ema Horvath, Yeardley Smith, Alyssa Milano and Devon Sawa.

The festival will feature directorial debuts from Nina Dobrev (“The One”) and Jenna Ushkowitz (“The Dinner Party”), as well as shorts like “Boys,” directed by Luke Benward and produced by Ariel Winter and Sterling Beaumon, and “Serpentine,” directed by Eva Dolezalova and starring Barbara Palvin.

Mammoth Film Festival also has an episodic television block, showcasing “Hudson Falls,” starring Richard Kind, Chike Onkonkwo and Jessica Hecht, Jason Neubauer’s “Affect Change” and Brandon C. Thomas’ “One Michelin Star.”

This year, the festival, co-founded by Tanner Beard and Tomik Mansoori, will also debut a music video category judged by Andrew Sandler (“Downfalls High”).

Other films across the features, documentaries, episodics and shorts categories will be announced in the weeks to come.

ADG Awards to Honor Set Designer Ann Harris

Set designer and art director Ann Harris, best known for her over 60 movie and television design credits including “Edward Scissorhands” and “Schindler’s List,” will receive the Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Lifetime Achievement Award from the Set Designers & Model Makers Council (SDMM) at the 26th Annual ADG Awards. The Awards ceremony, set for March 5.

We are happy to honor Ann’s service to the Set Design Craft,” said Kristen Davis, ADG Set Designers and Model Makers Council Chair. “Ann served as Local 847 President, Vice President and Treasurer, and contributed to her community by being involved in presidential campaigns, state measures, Amnesty International, New Energy Development, PBS and more. While being a single mom and raising her son, she worked and has been a valued member of many notable Art Departments.”

The award will spotlight Harris’ 35-year career and her artistic contributions to many of the most memorable films and iconic television shows.

American Cinema Editors (ACE) to Honor Sundance Institute with ACE Golden Eddie Award

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) announced that the organization will present the Sundance Institute with its highest honor, the ACE Golden Eddie Award, at the 72nd Annual ACE Eddie Awards ceremony at the ACE Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles on March 5.

The ACE Golden Eddie Award traditionally recognizes a filmmaker who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film but ACE broke tradition for the first time in its history this year by recognizing a film organization.

“This year, for the first time ever, the ACE Board voted to honor an organization rather than an individual,” stated ACE president Kevin Tent. “An organization that over the last 40 years has done more than any other to democratize and diversify cinema in America. An organization that has supported and nurtured the voices of countless filmmakers, many of whom have been honored by ACE in the past. We are thrilled to recognize the extraordinary contributions that the Sundance Institute has made on our art, industry and American cinema as a whole.”

Founding Senior Director, Artist Programs Michelle Satter, will accept the honor on behalf of the Sundance Institute.
