The Better Call Saul star, 61, was shocked when he learned he's related to King Charles during an appearance on the hit PBS show Finding Your Roots, in which host Henry Louis Gates Jr. helps celebrities learn about their family history.

In a clip of an upcoming episode obtained by Rolling Stone, Gates Jr. informs Odenkirk that he and the monarch are 11th cousins.

"That is crazy," he said, amidst lots of laughter.

Odenkirk learned that he was related to royalty from his father's side. The Breaking Bad star explained that he didn't have much knowledge of that side of his family because his dad Walter, left the family when Odenkirk was 15.

Gates Jr. eased into telling the actor of his royal blood, first informing him that his father's fifth great-grandfather was born out of wedlock to Maria Catharina Bein and the Duke of Plön.

“I’m an American. I’m not a monarchist. I don’t believe in, uh, that,” Odenkirk said to Gates Jr., before learning of his connection to King Charles. “You know, I feel like it’s a little twisted. I understand why society built itself around monarchs and leaders, and they passed them down through generations."

Odenkirk continued: "I understand that goes through every society, every civilization. But I think that we’ve gotten to a better place with democracy and we should keep going down that road.”

Gates Jr., looking slightly amused, then tells Odenkirk of his relationship to the king through the Duke of Plön, since intermarriage was common in royal families.
