"Oppenheimer" hits theaters this weekend, bringing one of the most hyped movies of the year to the big screen. And for optimal viewing experience, it requires a very big screen, one that only exists in a few locations in the world.

Fortunately for North Jersey film buffs, one of these special screens can be found just across the Hudson River.

Christopher's Nolan's biopic on the man who helped invent the atomic bomb was shot on large format film stock, which is a combination of IMAX 65mm and Panavision 65mm. Because of this, the filmmaker himself has said the best possible viewing experience for "Oppenheimer" is in IMAX 70mm theaters, of which there are only 19 in the country.

One such the theater, the only one within two hours for many Garden State residents, is located at the AMC across from Lincoln Center, located on Broadway and West 68th Street.

"The sharpness and the clarity and the depth of the image is unparalleled," Nolan said in an interview with the Associated Press. "The headline, for me, is by shooting on IMAX 70mm film, you’re really letting the screen disappear. You're getting a feeling of 3D without the glasses. You’ve got a huge screen and you’re filling the peripheral vision of the audience. You're immersing them in the world of the film."

If you haven't purchased tickets, seats at that theater are extremely hard to come by, with evening showtimes packed to the gills for at least the next week.

For those willing to settle for regular IMAX or 70mm showings, there are more options to pick from, and you're still likely to have a great film-viewing experience. In any IMAX theater, including IMAX digital, one of which is located in Paramus, the sequences shot with IMAX cameras will still expand to fill the entire screen.

IMAX theaters feature a screen that spans the width of the theater with loudspeakers behind the screen. IMAX cameras produce extremely high-quality images.

"Oppenheimer" tells the story of the life and work of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist whose work on the Manhattan Project helped develop the first nuclear weapons, changing the course of world history. It stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh and Robert Downey Jr. It has a runtime of three hours.
