This weekend brings two sold-out metro Phoenix concerts by the hottest young talent in regional Mexican music on his first headlining U.S. tour. Peso Pluma booked a big arena show in Glendale after blazing through all available tickets for a much smaller theater date in downtown Phoenix.

This weekend’s other top attractions range from a Taylor Swift dance night to a farmers market and the only singer to have topped the Billboard jazz charts with eight albums.

For more entertainment options, check out this month’s concert guide. There’s no shortage of things to do in the city that never sleeps because … well, frankly, it’s too hot to sleep.

Peso Pluma

Saturday night in downtown Phoenix is the first of two Valley concerts in two days for Peso Pluma, one of Billboard’s Latin Artists on the Rise, a Mexican hip-hop star with more than 53 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The 5,000-capacity Arizona Financial Theatre sold out so quickly that he added a concert the following night at the 18,000-capacity Desert Diamond Arena. The most-streamed artist in all of Mexico, routinely topping YouTube's countdown of top U.S. artists, Pluma aims to take corridos — a century-old Mexican tradition — further than ever by incorporating elements of urban music, trap and reggaeton. So far, so good.

Why bother telling you about a sold-out show? Because it's 2023. The resale market is lousy with marked-up tickets to these shows (and lousy, in general, for music fans).

Diana Krall

This piano-playing vocalist has been among the higher-profile names in jazz since 1997, when "Love Scenes” topped the Billboard jazz chart while earning Krall the first of many Grammy nominations. She's won the Best Jazz Vocal Album Grammy twice — for "When I Look in Your Eyes" and "Live in Paris." And rather than rest on those serious laurels, she's still adding gems to her legacy, as recently as 2020's excellent "This Dream of You," on which Krall's Great American Songbook encompasses Irving Berlin and Bob Dylan.

Details: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 23. Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St. $48-$163. 480-644-6500, mesaartscenter.com.

Best Night Ever: Taylor's Version

The Marquee Theatre is hosting a Taylor Swift dance party. There's really not much more you need to know, except perhaps that Taylor Swift is not expected to attend. I mean, you didn't really think she'd be there, did you? But that's no reason not to shake it off while getting down to this sick beat to all the hits you know and love.

Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market

We know this happens every weekend, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded that some things are good enough to happen every weekend.

Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market is committed to seasonally grown local foods and products. They take immense pride in their weekly event where residents and visitors can shop community farmers and small businesses year-round. It's open rain or shine, although I don't think we're expecting rain. And admission is free, which leaves more money for the produce.

Third Friday

Just as every hit TV show needs a spinoff series, Artlink's First Friday art walk quickly blossomed into such a massive cultural phenomenon that it was only a matter of time before the folks at Artlink started eyeing up the other Fridays on their calendar and came up with a second monthly downtown Phoenix art walk.

Sometimes referred to as Gallery Night, due to the number of exhibition openings that take place, Third Friday has less of a party vibe than OG Friday. As Artlink notes on its site, "the visiting crowds are decidedly more arts-focused."

Much like First Friday, Third Friday is free.

Details: 4-10 p.m. Friday, July 21. Throughout downtown and midtown Phoenix. Go to the Artlink website for an interactive map of the destinations. Free. artlinkphx.org/phx-fridays/.
